The City Schools Division of Dasmariñas thru the efforts of the Learning Resources Management Division (LRMD), spearheaded a training-workshop specifically on the development and evaluation of learning resources materials for Junior High School last April 8-12, 2018 at the National College of Science and Technology (NCST) and STI College Dasmariñas.

The five-day training-workshop was participated by material developers and evaluators from the junior high schools of the division who are expected to come up with a quality assured learning modules for the different learning areas whose primary purpose is to ensure the thrust of learning competencies for learners qualified as students at risk of dropping-out (SARDO).

These learning materials will be exclusively used by the students of the City Schools Division of Dasmariñas to aid in the primary concern of not learning the competencies they are expected to achieve due to reasons related to absenteeism, sickness, or even those students who are usually off the campus in times of contests, sports competitions, and other events.

During the training-workshop, the first two days at NCST were dedicated for a seminar highlighting and enlightening the module developers of the legalities, limitations, guidelines and quality assurance procedures of preparing a learning resource material.

In fact, Atty. Rhina May Sayarot-Elicano, Attorney III – CSDO Dasmariñas Legal Unit, during her talk on Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines, highlighted, “Because of lack of knowledge may violation na pala… We will follow the rules because we are responsible citizens.”

Accordingly, the discussions included the following topics: IPR Code of the Philippines by Atty. Elicano, Technical and Specification Standards of LRs given by Ms Katrezia Macawile, PDO II – LRMD; and Quality Assurance Process by Ms Adao, on the first day.

Subsequently, on the second day, developers were privileged to have an opportunity listening to the personnel from the Bureau of Learning Resources – DepEd Central Office such as Ms. Sharon Buti to discuss on the Revised Social Content; and, Mr. Jejomar Alda on IPR and Copyright Processes in Evaluation of Learning Resources. Both contents are usually given to DepEd personnel only.

“Ang paggawa ng learning resources na socially relevant ay nakatutulong upang makabuo ng mga students na magiging helpful sa community,” uttered Buti on her talk. She also emphasized gender sensitivity in crafting learning resources and ensure that male and female are well-represented.

Meanwhile, the remaining three days were scheduled for workshops at STI College Dasmariñas, wherein the developers took the challenge to prepare module-like materials, brainstormed and validated together with the division evaluators composed of head teachers, key teachers and coordinators, and division supervisors of different learning areas.

“Hindi pwedeng basta na lang… kailangan nandun din ang quality,” mentioned by Ms Leylanie V. Adao, Education Program Supervisor for Learning Resources Management Division, as she reminds the developers to ensure the quality of the materials that will be developed for the purpose of answering the voices of the customer – the learners.

Moreover, the developers were also asked to present their created learning materials as they were grouped per learning areas, for a chance to further improve their works based on the suggestions and evaluation of their respective subject evaluators and co-developers.

The mentioned materials are expected to be field validated not later than June of the upcoming school year and is expected to be launched and distributed not earlier than July. (Article by Michael Andrew B. Arevalo)
