The Philippines is on its rainy season. Typhoons and heavy rains may also cause flooding which can potentially increase the risk of acquiring communicable diseases. These include water-borne diseases (e.g., Leptospirosis, Typhoid Fever, Cholera); viral and bacterial infections (e.g., COVID-19, Influenza, Tonsilitis); and vector-borne diseases (e.g., Dengue, Malaria, Chikungunya). The intensity of the inclement weather is increased due to climate change.

For the information and guidance of all, the Health and Nutrition Unit reiterates the following health and safety precautionary measures during this rainy season:

• Water-borne Diseases (e.g., Leptospirosis, Typhoid Fever, Cholera)
-Avoid wading in flooded areas.
– Secure safe drinking water.
– Practice proper handwashing habits at all times.
– Seek early medical consultations.

• Viral and Bacterial Infections (e.g., COVID-19, Influenza, Tonsilitis)
– Continue wearing face masks at all times.
– Avoid crowded places.
–  Strictly observe the minimum public health standards.
– If symptoms develop, stay at home and report to your respective BHERTs for health monitoring and management.
• Vector-borne Diseases (e.g., Dengue, Malaria, Chikungunya)
– Observe 4S in schools and households:
i. Search and Destroy;
ii.Self-Protection;
iii.Seek early consultation and;
iv. Say YES to fogging and fumigation during outbreak.

Immediate and widest dissemination of and compliance with this Memorandum is directed.
