It was a lucky third strike for the Dasmariñas City Teachers’ Chorale (DCTC) after bagging 2nd Runner-Up in the Civil Service Commission’s 2018 Government Choral Competition held last September 18, 2018 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines.
With the theme, “Lingkod Bayani: Maka-Diyos, Makatao, Makabayan,” the eight finalists from NCR, Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao performed three Filipino choral works – one song that exhibits one or more of the values promoted by the Commission (love of God & country, excellence and integrity), one freely chosen a cappella choral work and one original a cappella arrangement of the competition song.

The Dasmariñas City Teachers’ Chorale showcased the product of their three months long rehearsals in an orange Filipiniana gown and black barong both embroidered with flowers and butterflies to represent the City of Dasmariñas. The competition piece “Kawani ng Gobyerno, De Kalidad Ang Serbisyo” was the initial song performed by the group. Dasmariñas City Teachers’ Chorale also sang a version of “Puso Para Sa Bayan.” Their last song performance entitled “Tumbang Preso” wowed the audience members because of the flawless dynamics despite the tongue-twisting lyrics and piercing keys.
DepEd Catanduanes Division Choral landed 3rd Runner-Up while the City Government of Makati Employees Chorale won as the 1st Runner-Up. The Bayugan City Educators Chorale emerged as the Grand Champion. They also prevailed as Best Regional Entry from Mindanao, Best Arrangement of Competition Song, and Best Conductor.
Singer and actress Bayang Barrios and the UP Dance Company also graced the event through their exemplary performances. The finale featured all of the chorale group participants singing to “Kaya Ko Ang Pagbabago” conducted by Mr. Arwin Tan. Other participants were the COA Central Office/NCR Choir, National Power Chorale, DepEd Division of Agusan del Sur Teachers’ Chorale, and Naval State University Chorale.
