
Trailing this year’s National Book Week theme “Libraries Take Action: Providing Access and Opportunity to All”, the City Schools Division of Dasmariñas initiated the first Book Fair at the De La Salle Animo Center, City of Dasmariñas, Cavite on November 21-22, 2017. The DepEd Dasma Book Fair 2017 was participated by Kinder to Grade 12 students and teachers from public and private schools.
Among the eighteen exhibitors who graced the two-day event were ABC Educational Development Center, Adarna House, Anvil Publishing, Bookware Publishing, Church Strengthening Ministry, FNB Educational, Futurebuilder Publications, Golden Cronica, Hope Publishing, Lampara, MindGuru, New Century Books, OMF Literature, Unlimited Books, Vicarish, and Visprint. Students, teachers, and even parents were able to purchase books on discounted prices.

SDO officials, personnel, and school heads attended the opening program with Ms. Lina Tibayan and Dr. Emmanuel Resurreccion spearheading the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Chelsey Hammil Cañares from Dasmarinas Elementary School, champion of the Storytelling Contest during the Regional Festival of Talents, performed her piece to pupils from Kinder to Grade 3 of different schools. Amalgamated Specialties Corporation (AMSPEC), one of the event partners, conducted a Christmas-themed art workshop to 30 pupils. A learning event about Press Delete Bullying was discussed by Dr. Rowena Hibanada and Visprint author Joey Arguelles talked about being a writer and his book during the afternoon sessions of Day 1.




Kids from Kindergarten to Grade 3 were excited as Mori Santos and Kuya Nonoy from Adarna House performed simultaneous storytelling sessions on the second day of the book fair. Cha Medina, a freelance creative, talked about her passion for art and how she made a career out of it. High school students were energized as the last speaker, Joselito Delos Reyes, did an “interview yourself” kind of discourse highlighting his humble beginnings and experiences in creative writing. There were also film viewing activities for both days which featured Dead Poets Society and The Book Thief.



AMSPEC generously distributed their products assortments like Lil Hands Oil Pastel, Lil Hands Gift Pack, Lil Hands Water Pastel Washable, Magic Pencils, Lil Hands Crayons, Crayola, Lil Hands Trooper Plane Modelling Foam, Lotus Highlighter, Lotus Whiteboard Marker, Lotus Permanent Marker, and Lotus Pro Ballpens which were enjoyed by the students during the raffle segment.


The Division’s Story Book Writing Contest and Search for Most Functional Library and Reading Area were awarded in the closing program. Among the 1st Place winners in the Division’s Story Book Writing Contest are Mildred Geminiano, Kamille De Claro, and Shiela Marie Borilla with their story book entitled, “Si Baste at si Koko” from Pintong Gubat Elementary School (Kindergarten), Maria Antoniette Ocampo with her story book entitled, “Mauna-una” from Salitran Elementary School (Grade 1) and Karren Labayna with her story book entitled, “Nasaan si Pepay?” from Salitran Elementary School (Grade 3). Grolier sponsored three sets of story books for the 1st Placers of each level.
