For the promotion of correct hygiene and sanitation practices among school children and a clean environment in and around schools, the Department of Education issues Policy and Guidelines for the Comprehensive Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene in Schools (WinS) Program to keep learners safe and healthy.
The objective of the program is to ensure correct knowledge and understanding among learners of effective hygiene and sanitation and to keep learners healthy and avoid illnesses or infection related to intestinal parasites, abdominal pain and diarrhea.
In this regard, the Policy and Guidelines shall apply to all private and public elementary and secondary schools nationwide including Learning Centers. Schools shall ensure effective implementation of the WinS Policy and its program activities in the school setting.
