1. The Department of Education through the Bureau of Learning Resources
announces the conduct of the Gawad Teodora Alonso 2023, the fifth edition of the formerly called National Competition on Storybook Writing. The competition aims to appreciate the roles of stories and illustrated storybooks as a tool in reading enhancement, gather original stories that demonstrate K to 12 learning
competencies, recognize talents of teaching and non-teaching personnel in
storybook production, and contribute to the repository of learning resources.

2. The competition is open to classroom teachers and non-teaching personnel,
with special categories dedicated to education leaders and learners. The official
guidelines and mechanics, qualifications, required documents, and essential
standards for each category are outlined in the attached DepEd Memorandum No. 56, s. 2023. Enclosed herewith are the mechanics and qualifications and the
schedule of activities relative to the competition.

3. Official participants for Category 1 have been screened and selected by the
Division Screening and Selection team based on the guidelines and mechanics set
in Division Memorandum No. 316, s. 2023 or the Division Competition on
Storybook Writing 2023. Categories 2 to 6 are open for participation.

4. Participation to the activities shall adhere to DepEd Order No. 9, s. 2005 on
Instituting Measures to Increase Engaged Time-On-Task and Ensuring Compliance Therewith, and strict compliance to other existing DepEd rules and guidelines. Hence, concerned teachers are advised to coordinate class schedules so contact time will not be affected.

5. In addition, expenses incurred relative to participation including traveling to
the venues may be charged against available local funds subject to usual
accounting and auditing rules and regulations.
