In line with DepEd OUA Memorandum 00-0522-0128 titled Menstrual Hygiene Day, the Office of the Undersecretary for Administration (OUA) through the Bureau of Learner Support Services-School Health Division (BLSS-SHD), in partnership with GIZ, UNICEF, and Save the Children Philippines, will conduct a webinar on 27 May 2022 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. for the celebration of Menstrual Hygiene (MH) Day 2022 with the theme, Advancing Menstrual Hygiene Management in the Philippines.
This event will highlight the progress made through the years, as well as feature a discussion on strategies to advance Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) in schools as part of the Department’s WinS Program.
This activity aims to:
a. Break the taboos and end the stigma surrounding menstruation;
b. Raise awareness about the challenges regarding access to menstrual products, education on menstruation, and period-friendly sanitation facilities; and
c. Mobilize the funding required for action at scale.
Meeting the hygiene needs of all adolescent girls and women in all settings enables human rights, dignity, and public health. Social pressures and biological needs may prevent girls from participating in classes, clubs, sports, or other activities. MHM challenges can negatively impact learning experiences of girls leading to school absenteeism, decreased participation, distraction and falling behind in course work, among others.
In this regard, this Office enjoins the field to participate in this activity.
