In line with DepEd Memorandum No. 169, s. 2016, this office supports the Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC) advocacy campaign entitled, One Million Lapis.
The One Million Lapis Campaign aims to collect one million pencils to be given to underprivileged children in elementary schools of the 4th to 6th class municipalities of the country. A documentary in 2012 showed that children in far-flung villages of the country divide one pencil into three to be used for writing.
In support to this, all public schools through their Adopt-a-School Coordinator are hereby enjoined to participate in the campaign and must be guided by DepEd Order No.41, s. 2012 or the No Collection Policy. Collection of pencils must be done on a voluntary basis only and must not be mandatory nor become a school requirement.
ASP coordinators may invite partners from non-government organizations, parent-teachers associations, and other members of the community or the private sector to donate pencils for the Campaign. Donation of the pencil for the Campaign will be done until October 21, 2016 and to be submitted in the division office on October 24, 2016.
